WELCOME to the Panama Swimming Club in Whitley Bay!
We are a friendly mixed ability group of all ages who share a love for sea bathing and swimming proudly rooted in our 87 year history (we were founded in 1930).
We swim seven days a week with organised group swims at 11am on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday (meet around 10.45am). Swims on other days and times are organised through our Facebook group. This year we have also introduced early evening swims between May and September (when the night’s are lighter and the sea a bit warmer!)
If you think this might be for you, it’s a great time to join our merry aquatic band! We’re developing exciting plans to renovate our clubhouse over the coming years in order to continue to grow membership – opening up the amazing social, health and wellbeing benefits to more people for many years to come!
Best to just call in, around 10.45am on Tuesday, Friday or Sunday, and you’ll find a warm welcome (well, warm till you get in the sea!) Try it out for free a few times. Then, if it is for you (warning: it’s hugely addictive!) you’re welcome to join. Annual fees are extremely modest.
Please note that due to developments currently taking place on the promenade, we have temporarily relocated to portacabins adjacent to the Rendezvous Café on Dukes Walk. We also have a temporary pre/post-swim social/recovery space nearby.
If you’re wondering about wetsuits, training, etc – our current members don’t wear wetsuits, though this isn’t a rule. We can’t support training through coaching, safety boats, etc. But we do have members who compete, including a couple of Channel swimmers (with one currently training for a double-Channel crossing!) We can help you think about this aspect when you pop in.
Of course, we all swim at our own risk. Therefore personal individual responsibility for deciding to swim is always paramount. You can read our Swim Responsibility Statement here.
We look forward to swimming with you soon!
